From Chennai to Madurai : A Story of Student Commitment and Learning

At Pydun Technology, we take immense pride in witnessing the transformative power of education. Every student journey inspires us, especially when we see young minds overcome challenges to achieve their academic and professional goals.

Our recent one-month interactive internship in Data Science & Analytics with AI for a group of eight enthusiastic engineering students from Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) stood out as a remarkable story of dedication.

Commitment Beyond Distance

What truly distinguished this experience was the students' remarkable drive and willingness to learn. Demonstrating exceptional initiative, they traveled from Chennai to Madurai, arranging their own accommodation at a Kalavasal PG to fully participate in the program.

Their commitment underscored the importance of accessible, high-quality education in the evolving fields of data science and AI. The internship commenced on February 3rd, 2025, and from the very first day, their enthusiasm was palpable.

Overcoming Academic Challenges

The journey was not without academic hurdles. Many students initially struggled with Excel sheet formulas, an essential foundation for data analysis. However, their perseverance, coupled with guidance from our experienced mentors, proved effective.

Beyond the basics, the students delved into advanced topics including :

  • Algorithm optimisation
  • Statistical modeling
  • Machine learning model selection

One particular challenge they faced was mastering the Decision Tree algorithm. Initially, they struggled with understanding information gain, choosing optimal feature splits, and managing overfitting through pruning techniques.

Through structured explanations, hands-on coding exercises, and personalized feedback sessions, the students steadily built their competence. They eventually learned to:

  • Calculate information gain
  • Apply splitting criteria effectively
  • Implement pruning to enhance model generalisation

Their steady progress and newfound confidence were truly rewarding to witness.

“The internship challenged us beyond our expectations, but the hands-on mentoring made all the difference. It was a truly rewarding experience,” shared one of the participating students.

Empowering Future Technologists

This initiative reflects Pydun Technology’s commitment to empowering students by making advanced technological education more accessible. By the end of the internship, the AMET University students had unlocked new potential within themselves — ready to contribute meaningfully to the future of technology.

At Pydun Technology, we remain dedicated to cultivating a dynamic learning ecosystem where students not only learn but thrive. We look forward to welcoming many more passionate learners on their transformative journeys with us.
